TOURISM

Although the town of Corella displays an undeniable Baroque connotation, it is also well worth mentioning the influence that wine has had on the life and culture here, as Corella is the place in Navarre with the highest number of wineries per inhabitant, with a total number of 9.

This is why the Town Hall of Corella, with the aim of promoting these two assets (the Baroque and wine) as a tourist destination, bearing in mind the potential which emanate from both, wants to promote them together under the touristic slogan “Corella, City of Wine and the Baroque” and, in this way, strengthen Wine or Oenological Tourism (which manages the wine-growing wealth in the region, helping to make it prosper even more, if possible). This type of tourism enjoys a close link with both Gastronomic Tourism and Health and Welfare Tourism.

By developing Wine Tourism, it is hoped that Corella will be pushed and promoted as a tourist destination linked to quality, but also contributing to the promoting of its native products (as in the case of wine), within the popular culture and history of the town: these are important assets to be taken into account for the development of tourism.

The land which surrounds Corella is registered within the Designation of Origin of Navarre (D.O. Navarra) and belongs to the subzone of Lower Ribera (La Ribera Baja). With rich lime clay earth and a special microclimate, this is a privileged place for the cultivation of vines and, therefore, make the wines truely stand out. The cultivation of the vine is carried out in Corella with great expertise, and this has made the wines of Corella renowned, on the national and international markets.

As previously mentioned, Corella has as many as 9 very prestigious wineries in its possession (some have been producing fines wines for centuries), and these have won numerous awards both within and outside its boundaries.

The special characteristic which this land has is that it is the main fiefdom of Moscatel at a national level: the wine is aromatic on the nose with an elegant body, leading to a very sweet taste and pleasant flavour on the palate.

Moscatel is a drink with a fine golden colour, whose sweetness comes from its high sugar content due to the delay in the process of fermentation, the reason being to avoid all the sugar from the grapes turning to alcohol.

The wineries of Corella (the following wine producers have an internet link or a telephone contact for those who wish to obtain more information) produce all types of wine, from white wine to red passed as rosé.
